I’ve done some tweaking on this, to make it more Sea Scouting friendly:-)
(although I’ve also tweaked some of them a little.)
When I was one I had some fun the day I went to sea,
I climbed aboard a pirate ship and the captain said to me,
We’re going North, South,
East, West
and up the Irish sea,
A bottle of rum to soothe my tum and that’s the life for me!
(or A juicy plum to fill my tum and that’s the life for me! if the rum is going to be a problem for your Group:-) )
When I was two I sailed into view the day I went to sea…
When I was three I found the galley the day I went to sea…
When I was four I rowed to shore the day I went to sea…
When I was five I learnt to dive the day I went to sea…
When I was six I learned to fix the engine on DC…
(This one is local to our Group. DC is Dampier Creek, our big work boat. It’s always having work done on the engine:-) )
When I was seven I gazed at the heavens the day I went to sea…
When I was eight I became the mate the day I went to sea…
When I was nine I ate a lime the day I went to sea…
When I was ten I scrubbed a den the day I went to sea…
ACTIONS
For each of the numbers, show that number of fingers.
climbed: climb with arms and legs
pirate: cover your eye with one hand
captain: salute (open handed)
North: jump forwards
South: jump backwards
East: jump to the right
West: jump to the left
up the Irish Sea: kick one leg forward
A bottle of rum: sway a bottle in front of you
to soothe my tum: pat or rub your stomach
that’s the life for me!: swing arms with gusto
